This regiment was raised in 1757 from drafts taken from the 4th, 8th and 24th Foot. It was originally numbered as the 64th, but renumbered after various second battalions were taken into the line. It fought at Wandewash using colours numbered as the 64th, not knowing it was, at that time, the 79th!
The regiment was disbanded in 1764. Information on its colours and uniforms are conflicting. Some sources state that details are not known. Other sources indicate that the Regimental Colour was buff and the uniform lace white.
